OLD STREET

CBS Interactive, the premier online content network for information and entertainment, moved back to the silicon roundabout, The Old Street Tech Hub of London to immerse their culture within the media community. GTA was appointed right at the start, facilitating the business and office location strategy, building evaluations and workplace analysis. A project brief was formed, the backbone for building selection, space planning and the design scheme.

HOW WE DID IT...

The Warehouse, part of the new Bower office development offers urban architectural features with exposed mechanical services, concrete surfaces, and exposed steel columns. Working in parallel with CAT A completion, stringent coordination and clear communication lines with the landlord ensured the basebuild works did not hinder on our client taking occupancy of their new office.
CBS Interactive reside over the top 8th and 9th floors, benefiting from full height windows and outdoor terraces. The 9th floor seating terrace creates a perfect view and panoramic backdrop behind reception.
GTA’s design put a spiral stair at the heart of the office creating a dedicated communication link between CBS’ floors. The spiral stair, of a cellular balustrade design, is a white sculptural architectural statement in what is otherwise a very linear space. In angling meeting room/office partition lines a vista through the floors is maintained ensuring the spiral stair is always on view.
A central spine of ancillary facilities such as print pods and mini teapoints encourage cross circulation on each floor. Collaborative zones and phone booths with varied furniture styles and writeable working walls cater for different tasks at hand. The main staff teapoint and break out located at 8th floor encourages staff to congregate in one dedicated area. A versatile space, the breakout features a games area with foosball and table tennis as well as the ‘green space’. Influenced by urban rooftop gardens, the green space offers tiered seating and a large artificial grass area for bowls, cinema evenings and picnics!
